Market report 13th November 2008
November 15 2008This weeks market once again saw an abundance of flowers due to the warm weather. Both asiatic and oriental lillies were in good supply as well as the alstromeria and the ever popular gerbera. Due to the large numbers of flowers around at the moment it certainly allows for some bargains to be had, such as the 50cm roses at Stems for only $12.00 per bunch.
The peonie roses have also come in. These blooms are simply extraordinary. They are generally only available for a 4-6 week period, so be sure to come in and grab a bunch for your vase at home, or perfect for a gift. Simply wrapped in Brown paper, they are unbeatable…Our grower of the peonies has done a special this week for our television ad at $12.50 per bunch or 3 for $30.00. You simply wont get better value than this anywhere in Ballarat.
On the native front, a number of varieties such as the Hypericum berries and the ‘sea holly’ are out of season for a short period, but the King proteas are everywhere in the market. We have a new grower who produces his King Proteas in Hamilton, and has advised that he will have production right up until Christmas this year. His quality is fantastic, and we are able to offer 3 for $15.00 for these massive proteas.
Speaking of Christmas, we are lucky enough again to have the 7 foot Christmas trees on sale at Stems. Orders are being taken now, forthe last weekend in November. Our grower tells us the quality is magnificent this year despite the less than average rain fall. Although his prices have increased we are keeping them at $30.00 this year. We have one down at the shop, so pop down, have a look at the quality and place your order now.
From the farm, the gypsophila is in full flight at the moment along with chinis. We have the chinis on sale at 3 for $10.00 at the moment, which offers great value. Because the gyp bunches are so large they can either be bought as a full bunch or half bunch depending on your needs.
