Market Report Thursday 11th December 2008
December 11 2008All the trimmings of Christmas were fully on offer at this mornings market. The list of flowers and foliage for the festive season is just too big to mention everything, so here are our best buys as we see it.
Think Christmas flowers and one of the first things to mind are Christmas lilies or November lilies. November lilies is now an ‘out of date’ name for these festive wonders as in the old days they only flowered in November. Now with improved varieties growers are able to time there crops for a perfect Christmas flowering. This year at Stems we have selected to stock two types of Christmas lilies the first a short variety grown in the outside paddocks of the Santospirito family of Geelong. Charlie, Anthony and David grow a very robust and large bunch of shorter lilies and we are offering them at only $9.99 per bunch. The leaves and flowers can be susceptible to natural imperfections as they are grown out in the natural environment. Our second variety is a premium Lily grown in Glass houses by John Feingold and Steve Legg of Feingold flowers. These tall lilies are spotlessly clean and free from any imperfection. Each bunch has 7-10 stems and multi flower heads (some growers put only 5 stems per bunch) and their is no doubt in our mind that they are the very best Christmas lily available in Australia this Christmas for both quality and price. We are very proud to offer these at only $15 per bunch or 2 for $25. For a showy display at home or as a gift you simply can’t go past these wonders.
Potted colour provides some great gift ideas. Excellent quality locally grown Philanopsis orchids are now back in stock as well as Hydrangea’s, Pineapple plants, Bromeliads and of course the Christmas favourite the Poinsettia. We have three size Poinsettias available a medium at $18 a large at $25 or a jumbo pot at $40. Any of these potted lines would make an excellent gift or decoration from home.
There are simply far too many more exceptional products available this week to mention so please drop in or give us a call in-store to discuss how we can help you at this festive time.
