Market report Thursday 5th March
March 5 2009It was once again a busy market today with the complete range of flowers on display, although some lines are beginning to be more difficult to obtain. After the incredibly hot and dry start to the year the cheaper lines grown outdoors have really struggled for quality, which means demand for the better quality increases and has seen some increased prices on such lines as the Asiatic lillies and the gerberas. A good relationship with our growers has seen our prices remain stable, so we can continue to offer the great prices to our customers.
This week we took advantage of a bulk buy of some bright coloured 40cm roses, which we have in store for only $9.99 per bunch of ten. Not too many reds amongst this as they were timed so perfectly for Valentines. Also showing great value at the moment is Glasshouse grown asters, available in a great range of vibrant colours, as well as the stunning tulips available in some striking colours. The real value however still remains from the product that is coming in from our Ballarat farm.
The lisianthus are currently the best in Victoria. Although biased, this has been the consensus from many of our wholesale buyers. We have the lisianthus as our television ad this week at 3 for $20 which is unbeatable value. Also featuring on the ad is the Sim Carnations which again grown in Ballarat are unbeatable. The Green Trick is selling very well, and the farm is very excited by this new products potential. Many wholesalers are interested in selling this line due to its unique appearance and shelf life.
The tropicals caught the eye this morning also. The crabs, heliconias and the birds of paradise all looked extremely vibrant, so be quick if these lines are of interest to you, as they tend to sell very fast.
That again concludes the market report for another week. With the hot weather hopefully now behind us, we can once again get excited about buying flowers for that perfect gift or for the vase at home.
