Market Report 14th May

May 17 2009

It was a case of re-loading after a very busy mothers day period.  Although many of our customers have a beautiful mothers day gift in their home, it is still largely a case of business as usual in the shop.  Many of our suppliers experienced very successful Mothers Day sales equalling if not surpassing previous years, which is pleasing in these economic times…

Many of our growers have only a limited supply of flowers this week, as many of the plannned mothers day crops have been picked bare, so flowers are a bit scarce at the moment.  Great quality oriental lilies are still available from Feingold, along with a great colour range of the 70 and 50 cm roses from Grandiflora.  A big delivery of gladioli have also been received from our Camperdown grower, so make sure you come in to choose from a large colour selection.

With the cold night time temperatures the quantities of carnations has slowed up from our Ballarat farm.  Demand is very high at the moment as the quality is outstanding.  This year for the first time we have planted a number of winter flowering crops such as the ranunculi and the quartet stocks, which will give some good production and keep us busy through the winter months.  These lines are expected in store in about 8-10 weeks.

Although the production from most farms is lower it is a great time to buy flowers as the quality is exceptional.  Come in to stems this week to choose some great quality flowers for your home or the perfect gift.  Thanks again to everyone who bought flowers at the shop last week , and I hope your experience was a good one.
