Market Report 25th June
June 25 2009Winter has certainly set in for all growers in the market with stock numbers well down on previous months. This hasn’t stopped us from filling the van to breaking point, making for a slop trip up the Pentlands this morning.
The naturally producing winter crops such as the calandula, the iris, and erlicheer are starting to fill the growers stands, with the daffodils being only a week away…
Lines such as the asiatic lilies, and the roses are in limited supply, however the quality is spectacular. The cooler weather slows down the production ensuring the flowers are at their peak. The cooler weather also opens up the doors for the imported flowers to enter the market to ensure that the supply meets the demand. We have purchased some nice quality imported 40cm roses today which we are offering for $15 a bunch or on special at 2 for $20.00. This offers exceptional value. We also have the locally grown 70cm roses from Grandiflora.
Alstromeria is this weeks bunch of the week at $8.99 or 2 for $15.00. This is grown at our Ballarat Farm, and the quality is unbeatable. On their own in a vase or mixed with your flower of choice, the alstromeria is unbeatable.
The quality from the farm is brilliant at the moment. The demand for our carnations at the moment cannot be met, with calls coming in from throughout Australia. Other winter flowering lines such as stocks and ranunculi are coming on beautifully with the first stocks expected in about 4-6 weeks.
Whilst I have been producing this market report, hopefully most of the work has been done – the van unpacked and put away in our coolroom – so please come on down and have a look and choose something new and interesting for yourself or a friend… See you at Stems.
