Market Report Thursday 10th September 2009

September 11 2009

This week is an extremely exciting week at Stems on a couple of fronts. Firstly we have begun picking our rannunculis at the farm. These are no ordinary ranuncs they are the Victorian series of Double flowers in White, Pale Pink, Dark Pink and Lime green. They are grown undercover in our Greenhouses that we grow our mothers day Chrysanthemum in. So we thought this would make an ideal spring crop. 98% of supply of Rannuncs in the market is the field grown singles in mainly Oranges and yellows, while these are nice they are nothing when compared to the Double Victorians that we have growing. Excellent vase life 7-14 days as they open to four inchs across flowers. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to some soon. Our season for them should last for the next 8 weeks.

Another first for our Ballarat farm is the picking of the first of our Quartet Stocks. They look like ordinary stocks but they have had the main head nipped out and the stems have branched out and the flowers come on 5-7 side branches. They make a great “country style” vase of flowers mixed with some Roses or carnations.

Finally this week Ted and Hazel our Coccinia Banksia growers have treated us with there absolutely exceptional coccinea Stems. Grown Locally at Stawell these little gems are very long lasting and make a great statement on their own or mixed with other flowers. We thank Ted and Hazel for supplying us with them.

So as always Stems is packed with variety and quality, so please drop in and take a look or give us a call so we can help you make a wonderful choice in flowers. And remember we deliver seven days a week to Ballarat and surrounding areas.
